Torn bread can be found easily in various cake shops and convenience stores. There are many variants, just right for a practical hunger booster.

1. Materials needed

The main ingredient:

  • 150 grams of high protein flour
  • 100 grams of medium protein flour
  • 50 grams of butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • pinch of salt

  • 100 ml of liquid milk
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast

2. Stir all the starter ingredients until dissolved

Pour liquid milk, sugar, and instant yeast into a measuring cup. Stir with the whisk until the sugar and yeast are evenly dissolved. Set aside the starter for about 15 minutes.

After that, put the flour, egg yolk, cocoa powder, and egg yolk into the container. Stir all the ingredients with the whisk until evenly distributed.

3. Pour the starter mixture into the flour mixture

Pour the starter solution into the flour mixture slowly, stirring constantly. If the texture of the dough is right and suits your taste, stop pouring it so that the dough doesn’t get too wet.

Next, add the butter and knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic. Put it in a container and cover the dough with a cloth for 20 minutes so that it expands perfectly.

3. Arrange the dough on a baking sheet

Remove the dough and deflate. Knead the dough again for a while until all the air comes out. Divide the dough into several equal weights, approximately 50 grams.

After that, prepare the trays. Grease the pan with butter in a thin layer, then arrange the ripped bread dough circles in it tightly. Let stand again for 30 minutes.

5. Steam the shredded brown bread until it expands

While waiting for the dough to expand, prepare a steamer pan on the stove. Pour enough water and heat it over low heat. Wrap the pot cover with a cloth as well.

Steam the shredded brown bread for about 30 minutes until it expands completely. When it’s done, remove it from the pan immediately. Serve steamed brown shredded bread warm with a cup of tea or coffee.
